Governor Corbett Signs House Bills, Senate Bills

Harrisburg – Governor Tom Corbett signed into law the following bills:

House Bill 88 (P.N. 529) – Amends Title 51 (Military Affairs) to clarify how military leave is calculated for public employees who work unconventional hours, such as a municipal firefighter working 24-hour shifts.

House Bill 925 (P.N.2552) – Designates the bridges that carry Lincoln Highway over Electric Avenue in North Braddock Borough, Allegheny County each as the AMVETS Memorial Bridge; the section of Pennsylvania Route 662 in Ruscombmanor Township, Berks County between the border with the Borough of Fleetwood and the border of Oley Township as the Chief Warrant Officer 2 Jarrett M. Yoder Highway; the interchange of Interstate 79 at Mount Morris in Green County as the Sgt. Michael Todd May Interchange; and the Murtland Avenue Exit from Interstates 79 and 70 onto State Route 19 in Washington, Washington County as the Lance Corporal Ryan J. Kovacicek, USMC, Exit.

Hope rides on a new Coatesville train station

Coatesville Station

Boarded up, with peeling paint and an empty platform, the shuttered train station at the end of Third Street is a portrait of urban blight, emblematic of so much of downtown Coatesville.

But local and state officials are pinning their hopes of getting a citywide revitalization on track with an $18 million-plus spruce-up of this underused Amtrak station.

Amtrak trains still stop at the Coatesville station – albeit without ticket sales or baggage services. Just under 15,000 people caught a ride there in 2011.
