Caitlyn Riehl of Gap Wins Eugene B. Casey Medal and Department of Biology Medical Professional Award

caitlynriehl2Washington College is pleased to announce that Caitlin Riehl ’13 of Gap, PA, has been named the recipient of the 2012-13 Eugene B. Casey Medal and the Department of Biology Medical Professional Award. The Eugene B. Casey Medal is awarded to “a senior woman voted by the faculty to be outstanding in the qualities of scholarship, character, leadership and campus citizenship.” The Department of Biology Medical Professional Award honors “the graduating biology major who has demonstrated academic excellence, who is pursuing a medical or veterinary degree, and who has a strong potential for success in the medical or veterinary fields.”

A Special Court Helps Veterans

VeteranCourtWhen Army Sgt. Paul Costello returned home to West Chester from an 18-month tour in Iraq in 2006, he “went on vacation for three months,” he said, laughing.

“I was so burnt out,” he said. “I was just so happy to be home.”

But his initial relief was short-lived, he said. He grew depressed and suicidal. He began drinking almost every day – “I was trying to go out and have as much fun as possible,” Costello, 28, said. “I felt I had missed out on so much.”
