Octorara Area School District is going all out for homecoming with far more than a football game and dance on the calendar.
There will be a homecoming carnival Sept. 25 to 28 with thrill rides, live disc jockeys, bands, food and of course sports. The gates for the carnival open at 6 p.m. each evening Wednesday through Friday and at noon Saturday.
Traditional homecoming activities begin Thursday, with the homecoming parade on campus starting at 6 p.m. where five couples from the homecoming court will be featured. Following the parade, the boys’ soccer team faces off against Henderson with a special Octorara Sports Hall of Fame induction at halftime.
The pep rally for students Friday afternoon should stimulate enthusiasm for the 7 p.m. homecoming football game against Oxford. At halftime, the homecoming king and queen will be crowned. Members of the queen’s court are Brooke Walton, Emily Schillinger, Hayley Fisher, Alexus Hart and Sara Fiscus. Members of the king’s court are Beau Chase, Nick Conforti, Robert Jennings, Kent Lantz and Isaac Milligan.
Saturday will be filled with sports activities starting with the field hockey alumni game at 7:30 a.m., and the volleyball tournament at 8, followed by girls’ soccer against Pequea Valley and field hockey versus Oxford. At 1 p.m. the boys’ soccer team will play Chichester. The weekend’s events conclude with the annual homecoming dance at 7 p.m.
