Octorara Area School District students will certainly notice two improvements when they return to campus on Aug. 26.
The entire interior of the junior high school has been painted, and the district’s varsity field will sport a $500,000 improvement project that includes a new turf field and stadium bleachers.
Superintendent Thomas Newcome said the the field work was completed with about $250,000 in donated funds, including a major donation of equipment and labor from J.D. Eckman Inc. The district also spent about $250,000 for the new stadium bleachers.
Elementary and Primary Learning School students are also certain to notice the new playground equipment installed at those schools, courtesy of the PTO.
Business manager Dan Carsley said no major construction projects were recently undertaken, just minor repair projects. The bricks over the administration building were repointed and sealed, a new concession window was installed in the high school lobby and a cracked sidewalk and small section of the high school roof were replaced.
Newcome said that for the first time in five years, there will be no reduction in programs due to budget cuts. The superintendent also said the district will continue to partner with the 21st Century Cyber Charter School to deliver additional courses to its on-campus Virtual Academy.
