Last week, the Keystone Valley Fire Department announced, “Due to Safety concerns for all of our citizens and visitors, the fair has been cancelled for Wednesday July 3rd because of weather related issues.” This week, another local event is threatened by weather.
The Parkesburg Criterium, part of the Chesco Grandprix, is scheduled to begin at 5:00pm with an Amature 45+ bike race, and conclude at 8:45pm with an award ceremony immediately following the Pro Men’s competition.
The National Weather Service is predicting scattered showers and thunderstorms before 2pm, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm between 2pm and 3pm, then scattered showers and thunderstorms after 3pm.
It will be mostly cloudy, with a high near 86. Winds will be southwest at 6 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
Tonight there will be scattered showers and thunderstorms before midnight, then isolated showers between midnight and 3am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 71. Southwest winds 3 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
Additionally, a slow moving front could pose a threat of locally strong to severe thunderstorms and some flooding for both Wednesday and Thursday.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is reporting we have received 8.20 inches of rain over just the last 30 days. Our area’s average rainfall is 4.70 inches of rain for July. With more wet weather in the forecast, it looks like we are in for a wet summer.
